According to an announcement by MRV Communications, its OptiSwitch Carrier Ethernet Access solution has been selected by CyC S.A. to deliver mobile backhaul and other revenue-generating data services across Argentina.

MRV will be providing its OS904-MBH-4 timing and synchronization gateway with circuit emulation services (CES) and the OS9124-410G first mile packet-optical aggregation platform. These products are OptiSwitch Carrier Ethernet 2.0 demarcation and aggregation devices. They deliver critical functionality that delivers all of the capabilities required by mobile backhaul network operated by CyC S.A. They will also prepare a migration path for any Carrier Ethernet network that CyC S.A. would deploy in the future.

In addition, MRV will also include its G8032 Ethernet Ring Protection and 10GE link aggregation capabilities. These products create a redundant, fault-tolerant network with high reliability. All of the MRV devices can withstand extreme temperature and environmental conditions per the requirements of CyC S.A.

MRV Communications provides excellent solutions for optical communications network infrastructure equipment, integration, and managed services. Its customer, CyC S.A., is the telecommunications subsidiary of the biggest electricity company in Argentina.

Cellular traffic in Argentina is booming. CyC S.A. decided to develop a new mobile backhaul network in order to cater to this growing, lucrative market. The telecom subsidiary decided to leverage the extensive electrical system established by its parent company. The system includes an expansive fiber optics mesh network which CyC S.A. developed in collaboration with a number of utility companies.

The existing network currently allows customers to access cell towers in metropolitan areas throughout Argentina. Each of these locations host a Carrier Ethernet network operated by CyC S.A. that can support wholesale mobile backhaul services.
